An evening with Marks and Spencer and Jane Devonshire

I think we all know Marks and Spencer are top of their game when it comes to food. I mean, whoever invented Percy Pigs deserves a medal.

I was so excited to be invited to an evening with the rest of the Southampton Bloggers celebrating their summer launches and also to meet Jane Devonshire, 2016 Masterchef Winner. Jane is releasing a gluten free cookbook on 20th September this year, inspired by her son’s struggle with coeliacs since he was 2. I’m so glad this cookbook is coming out, having Andy’s family struggling with coeliacs disease, it will be nice to have a cookbook showing me what to cook for when we live together. Jane was so lovely and had such a breadth of knowledge that was really inspiring.

Jane created a burger for M&S’s challenge for the ultimate burger. She created one for Hampshire and used local produce to create her ultimate surf and turf burger. Complete with crayfish and shrimp from our local waters, watercress from Alresford and new season Hampshire potatoes and a fried egg to top it all off. It looks and sounds incredible and luckily we’ve been given the recipe to recreate it!

We started off the evening with some Prosecco and then I had the elderflower Presse which was so nice and refreshing (if you read my Elderflower cordial recipe you’ll know how much I love it).

Me having a sweet tooth dived straight into the sweet stuff before realising there was cheese involved! These summery tarts would be perfect for a picnic or afternoon tea – filled with jam and buttercream and topped with meringue.

I love Percy pigs and was surprised to know that they had biscuit Percy pigs too (life changer). As well as salted caramel popcorn and coconut and chocolate popcorn.

I mean is it even a cheese board without chutney?!

We had a selection of cheeses, the chilli cheese was definitely the most popular, with seaweed cheese (yes you heard right) coming in close second.

There was also a selection of olives as well as some cheese and onion mini muffins (they were gorg) with some cured meats.

You can’t have an M&S party without Percy!

Macaroons were demolished after everyone had finished taking pics for the ‘gram!

This Eton mess popcorn was so lovely as well as the coconut and lemon meringues.

M&S strawberries have to be my favourite. They’re always so juicy and flavourful.

Huge thank you to Alice for organising everything as well as Grayling. It was such a good evening and I loved every second and had so much fun meeting everyone!
